After 18 years of military marriage, Della Doucet has taken her last order. In this sensual comedy about coming of age—at 39—Southern-born Della leaves her privileged world as an officer’s wife on a military base and moves to New York City. It’s the gritty 1980s and the East Village is exploding with unconventional art. Della is entranced. With little money and less experience, she struggles to find the life she missed, moving from one Marine Corps base to another while raising two sons. Her enthusiasm —not to mention a dose of Southern charm—begins to open doors. But her plans are derailed when she meets Sam, a passionate younger man with marching orders of his own.
